EPHEMERADS
Sprayed liquid porcelain slip
25*25cm, outdoor installations
Hong Kong and Jingdezhen, China | 2016
When I first arrived in Hong Kong I visited the antiques market and it was my first experience with the long rich history of Chinese civilization, and for some reason I was surprised to see so many of the classic antique Chinese coins for sale. The coins are known for being round in shape with a square hole in the middle, representing heaven and earth respectively - and another reference to duality and the Taiji. The vast wealth and economic inequality are striking in Hong Kong, and the history is interwoven with that of the British, empire and capitalism. It also rained like I had never experienced rain before! I created a series of transient public installations on walls and the ground with sprayed Jingdezhen porcelain slip in Hong Kong and Jingdezhen, attempting to reference the spiritual references originally encoded into the ancient monies. The porcelain would wash off with the rains, and return back to the ground. I considered these as 'ephemeral advertisments' for something beyond business and moneymaking. http://www.sinsinfineart.com/2016/assembling/index.html
