Porcelain tile, porcelain slip, soil, glaze
Jingdezhen, China | 2011
I had just discovered the traditional Chinese glazing spraying tool that had enabled the ancient Chinese to manually blow the glaze smoothly, evenly and efficiently onto the clay form, and that is still used today. I wanted to use the tool to spray layers of porcelain slip, glaze and soil onto porcelain tiles with layers of rice seeds, to create small relief landscapes to be wall-mounted. Sketches included use paper, ink, porcelain and soil.
